Total… redesign of your smile!
The DentalClinic applies the principles of aesthetic dentistry to all the dental and orthodontic services it provides. Our specialized scientific team always guarantees an aesthetically impeccable and functionally excellent result.
The total redesign of the smile is a process that requires the collaboration of all dental specialties, as it can include interventions at the front aesthetic area of the mouth apart from the teeth or gums or even in the area around the mouth. It is divided into white aesthetics, red aesthetics or a combination of the two.
1. Red Aesthetics:
It includes gum and possibly lip interventions and is just as important as white aesthetics, because just a gum line asymmetry can ruin every attempt for an aesthetic result with interventions only in the teeth.
2. White Aesthetics:
Its goal is to eliminate any problems in the appearance of the teeth -such as discoloration, cracks, crooked teeth, gaps between the teeth- and is achieved through techniques such as tooth whitening, porcelain veneers or resin veneers, all-ceramic or zirconia crowns and teeth plastic surgery (recontouring).
Whitening
Whitening (or bleaching) at the dental practice can take place either in the dental chair in one session with the use of a light source (e.g. Laser), or at home with the use of personalized splints that have been made by the dentist or with a combination of the two aforementioned techniques. Each technique has its disadvantages, its advantages and its application indications. In some cases (e.g. discoloration due to medication) there is no way to change of the color of the teeth with a whitening (or bleaching) method; in this case other techniques that will cover the discolored teeth will be proposed to you (e.g. veneers). Particular attention is needed when commercial whitening preparations are used (from drugstores, telemarketing, etc.), which apart from being ineffective, they could also cause irreversible damage to the teeth and gums (sensitivity, burns, etc.). Our preference is the combination of whitening (bleaching) both at the dental clinic and at home.
Veneers
Veneers are thin “shells” of ceramic material of a thickness of 0.3-0.8 mm which adhere to the front surface of the teeth and can change their shape and color. They require slight tooth drilling and are the most conservative tooth restoration. They are practically indestructible in time, remain unaltered and with color stability. 3-4 visits to the clinic are required for their fabrication, of which the first two visits are exclusively dedicated to the study and design of the new smile – in cooperation with the patient – and the preparation of the temporary veneers which shall be placed in the mouth of the patient, so that they can better think what their preferences are, or even consult people around them, before they decide.
Resin veneers (bonding)
They are a very good and cost effective solution. They are built and adhere on already existing teeth, without the use of anesthesia, while any gaps or cracks are filled and any discoloration due to already existing fillings or root canal treatments is corrected, etc. The entire process can be completed in only one visit of a duration of one and a half to three hours. The great advantage of this technique, apart from the very little time it requires, is the fact that it costs almost 1/3 of the price of the veneers. There are also pre-fabricated resin veneers with a slightly higher cost. Of course they are not advisable to heavy smokers, because resin veneers absorb colorants in contrast with veneers.
In our clinic for the veneers we use the lithium desilicate IPS e.max of IVOCLAR.
All-ceramic crowns (caps)
They are crowns which are entirely made of porcelain without a metal core. Compared to conventional metal-ceramic crowns, they present the closest to nature visual behavior compared to natural teeth, resulting in the achievement of a high quality aesthetic result when they are used.
Teeth plastic surgery (recontouring)
In many cases that there are small abnormalities in the aesthetic zone, these can be corrected with the removal of minor sections of the enamel in order to achieve a change in the shape of the teeth and a better harmonization with your smile. It is completely safe and does not require anesthesia, however it can be applied in a few and strictly selected cases.
Zirconia
It is a natural material that practically substitutes the metal that exists in conventional porcelain crowns or bridges. It is a light-colored material with excellent visual behavior, which is very similar to a natural tooth. It is fabricated in our cooperating laboratories with the use of a CAD/CAM system, which means that the work is practically designed electronically on a computer by us and the laboratory, and is fabricated by cutting a zirconia block on the special lathe. There is no manual intervention, and thus we can achieve works with a perfect fit and of perfect aesthetics.
Resin/porcelain inlays-onlays
They are practically large “fillings” made of porcelain or resin which however are fabricated at the laboratory, which results to a greater durability and better aesthetics compared to the “fillings” that are made directly in the mouth. They are used for the restoration of extensive loss of tooth substance in posterior teeth and are more conservative works compared to crowns (caps), because they do not require the complete coverage of the tooth, only of the missing part. They consist the first choice in our dental offices regarding the restoration of posterior teeth, due to the slight cut-off of dental substance which is required compared to crowns.
